Image Licensing

All of the images on this website — and thousands of others — are available for licensing. Living Wilderness regularly supplies images for books, magazines, newspapers, tourism and corporate websites, billboards and signage, greeting cards, calendars, TV commercials and movies.

The Lonely Planet, the National Geographic Society, Smithsonian, and The New Scientist are among our clients. We supplied images for album covers and kitchen tiles. We've even produced custom, highly-detailed images for murals in a Mount Rainier National Park visitor center.

Licensing Terms and Cost

  Living Wilderness Stock Photography

Images are licensed on a rights-managed basis, which means the license covers a specific use. Licensing fees are determined based on the size of the image and its prominence in the overall project, the amount of time it will be used and the size of the audience.

This is often less expensive than buying a blanket royalty-free license that includes rights you don't need. We work with you to come up with cost-effective licensing terms that meet your needs. Please ask.

Image Delivery

Most images are available for immediate download. If you found the image through the Image Search feature and there is an "add to cart" button in the upper right corner of the page, click it and select the "download" tab. Answer the questions about how you would like to use the image and you will be given an immediate rate quote. You can then complete the transaction and download the image immediately.

If you found the image in the fine-art print gallery, please send us a message with the image you want and your plans for using it. We will get back to you with a rate quote as soon as we can — often within an hour or two. If you are working under a specific budget, please let us know in your message so that we can craft a license package that meets your needs. We can provide the high-resolution image through a password-protected website or send you a CD.

File Size

Most images are at least 5,500 pixels on their longest side with an uncompressed file size of at least 57 mb. We typically provide digital files in the JPEG format with the highest-quality setting. We can, however, provide 16-bit TIFFs or PSDs on request.

Different Versions

If you don't find the exact image you want, please ask. We have several alternative versions for most of the images in the library. Tell us what you are looking for and we will try to find it. It is free to ask; we do not charge research fees.
