Lewis's Moon Snail (Polinices lewisii)

A Lewis's Moon Snail (Polinices lewisii), normally found underwater, is caught in a tide pool of West Seattle's Alki Point during an exceptionally low tide. The Lewis's Moon Snail is the largest type of moon shell and is named for Meriwether Lewis, who found them at the mouth of the Columbia River during the Lewis and Clark expedition and sent several back home.
