An American alligator
(Alligator mississippiensis) swims toward the observer along the
Anhinga Trail in the Everglades National Park, Florida. This is
the largest of the two species of alligators, and is native only
to the wetlands of the Southeastern United States. The raised
bumps on its back are used to store heat. |
