Florida Apple Snail, Florida Everglades

A Florida apple snail (Pomacea paludosa) floats in a small pond in the Shark Valley of the Florida Everglades. Florida apple snail is the largest freshwater snail in North America, and the only source of food for the endangered Florida snail kite. Its numbers are threatened because of projects that lower the water level in the Everglades.
