A Florida softshell turtle (Apalone ferox) swims in a large pond in the Shark Valley area of the Everglades National Park, Florida. Florida softshell turtles are found throughout Florida, but also in limited numbers in South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. The turtles are almost entirely aquatic, rarely coming to shore.
