Wood Stork, Florida Everglades

Wood Stork (Mycteria americana), Everglades National Park, Florida

A wood stork (Mycteria americana) flies over the wetlands of the Florida Everglades. Wood storks time their breeding cycle to coincide with the dry season. During the dry season, water is concentrated in small water holes, making it easier for them to find and catch fish for their chicks.
