Honu, Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle

Honu, Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas)

A Hawaiian green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) rests on a black sand beach on the island of Hawaii. The green sea turtles are called honu by the Hawaiians. The turtles are considered threatened and are the only sea turtles that bask on land. Honu are called green sea turtles because they feed on algae and have green fat.
