A Hawaiian stilt (Himantopus knudseni),
also known as an Ae'o, is reflected in the water of the Kanaha
Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Wailuku on the Hawaiian island of
Maui. The Hawaiian stilt is considered endangered, with fewer
than 1,500 currently found in the Hawaiian islands. It feeds on
the larvae of dragon flies, small fish, worms, crabs, water
insects, and the seeds and roots of water plants. |
