The late evening sun reddens the steep vertical face of Devils Tower in Wyoming. Devils Tower, which rises 1,267 feet from the river below, was formed when molten magma forced its way into the ground. The magma fractured into columns as it cooled. The surrounding ground eroded away over the past 60 million years.
