Mount Baker and Cap Cloud

Mount Baker and Cap Cloud

The summit of Mount Baker in Washington's North Cascades is obscured by a cap cloud. The cap cloud - a type of lenticular cloud - appears stationary but is formed by strong wind. Wind forces moist air up and over the peak. As the air rises, it condenses and turns into a cloud. As it descends on the other side, the cloud dissipates.
