Notes from the field

This scene lasted only a few minutes. I waited for nearly an hour under battleship gray skies for any trace of color. As I was about to give up, I looked down at my camera and saw the ground turn beet red. I looked up and saw the vibrant red color — even better than what I was hoping for — race from above my head to the mountain. Moments later, it was gray again.
