A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) guards its nest containing a couple of chicks, which are visible in the opening in the leaves at the bottom-center of the image. This nest was found in Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, where an estimated 200-250 chicks successfully left their nests in the 2006 season. (Other Great Blue Heron images.)
