Black-Tailed Prairie Dog

Black-Tailed Prairie Dog (Cynomys ludovicianus), Wyoming

A black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) pokes its head out from its burrow near the Devils Tower in northeastern Wyoming. This type of prairie dog was recently removed from the threatened species list. Prairie dogs are members of the squirrel family. They warn others of danger by sticking out their heads and barking.
