Flock of Sandhill Cranes

Flock of Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis)

Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) fly in search of food in the fields near Othello, Washington. Hundreds of cranes make a brief stop-over near Othello each March during their annual migration north. Sandhill Cranes have a spectacular mating dance: males and females face each other, leap into the air with their wings extended, bow, and leap again. Sandhill Cranes are up to four feet tall and have a wingspan of more than six feet.
