Northwestern Steller's Jay

Steller's Jay, Northern Variety (Cyanocitta stelleri)

A Northwestern Steller's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) looks out from its perch in an evergreen tree on Rampart Ridge in Mt. Rainier National Park. The Steller's Jay is commonly mistaken for the Blue Jay, which actually is not found west of the Great Plains. The Steller's Jay, however, is a very close relative to the Blue Jay.
